BUT IT CAN PROBABLY FIT INTO QUINN’S STORYLINE BECAUSE ANYTHING GOES IN GLEE. 

Think about that 40 years old skater. Oh the possibilities are endless.

i’m not even in glee fandom anymore, but the way ryan murphy responds to brittana fans on twitter upsets me most because of the fact that this is a show where the biggest demographic is young people, often very young teens, and having a show where young queer girls can recognise themselves is something so fucking rare. think of the way girls latched onto t.a.t.u a decade ago: even though it was all for publicity, it was recognition and exposure for young people that there are people like this and it isn’t dirty or wrong and it’s ok. it was such a rare thing that people clung to it. there are so few roles in tv and cinema for young queer characters. there are gay boys, queer male coming out tales at all ages, but if you’re a young person looking for queer female characters in the media they’re more likely to be grown women, and that’s not the same. but not only did representation like that get dangled, treated as 2nd rate compared to the gay male pairing and then taken away, it got replaced by a straight pairing and then reinforced by giving the straight pairing romantic moments and kisses straight off the bat where the fans of queer pairing had to campaign like crazy to even be recognised. 

and these kids are going to be upset. how could they not be? i know from his point of view it’s just one show, but it’s a show that claims to be pioneering in queer representation, but then falls at the starting gate. they fans are nearly all young people. it’s not like brushing off the criticism of grown adults as just being rude. it’s young people crying out to be heard in a show that gave them such a promise and then took it away while giving the boys everything. it’s young people looking critically at the way the media shows people just like them and asking the people who matter in the only way they know how: they get mad. but then turning around and mocking those fans, these KIDS, on the show is not only kicking them when they’re down, but also spitting on them. “keep dreaming, we’re going to keep doing whatever we want with these characters, who gives a shit who we hurt”

it just makes me so fucking mad. it makes me mad even though i’ve LEFT. how can people stay on that boat? you’re braver than me
